Safety concerns for personnel:
*This is not a complete or concise list for all businesses, industries, & personnel.
Safety concerns for personnel include metal safety shoe coverings for the toe & top of the foot, back braces, and keeping the hinged lid in the closed position except for the placement, and extraction of the removable bollards. The total weight of the removable bollards varies on the diameter, and length the customer is ordering, therefore the safety person at your company should review these considerations. It could be beneficial to a company to have two personnel extract and place the bollards. We also recommend the use of bollard storage racks. We would suggest that you to speak with the designated safety person for your business before purchasing the bollards.
Crash Tests:
We have not conducted nor do we intend to conduct a laboratory crash test. We do not boast or claim that given removable bollards will with stand any given force or impact for liability purposes. For us to say all bollards can withstand the same impact would be like saying all telephone poles or trees withstand the same impact. The durability of all bollards depends on how they are installed; it depends on things such as the type of concrete used, below grade length, diameter, wall thickness, if the bollard is filled with concrete, etc. Removable or stationary bollards are manufactured and designed as a deterrent and safety precaution, not a product which is intended to be life threatening, or create physical harm.
Installation:
How are standard removable bollards installed?
There are two options for the installation process:
1) Installation by core drilling into existing concrete. When using the core drill method simply use a core drill slightly larger than the removable pipe bollard insert.
2) The installation of a new footing. When using a new footing set the removable bollards insert into the concrete as it is poured.
Maintenance for removable bollards:
Generally, removable
bollards are low maintenance. If the bollard is used at least once per
month then you will encounter few problems. Removable bollards that are left
in the
ground for months at a time can or will seize in
place with dirt, rocks, etc. Each installation site has different drainage
scenarios. Our typical insert length is 9”-
Delegate
a person for checking the bollards at least once a quarter. Lubricate the
lock and hinged caps as needed. Make sure the bollard has free movement. If
alignment is off vertically, clean debris from the bollard insert. A shop
vacuum works great.
